He said to her, “Daughter, your faith has saved you; go in peace.”
Luke 8:48
So often in the Gospels, Jesus says that the faith of a sick person (or the faith of their friends) caused the miracle of healing. What is the connection between miracles and faith?
Faith and Miracles
What troubles you and hurts you immensely are your reason, your thoughts and your worry, and your desire at all costs to deal with what afflicts you.
Jesus, as spoken to Father Don Dolindo Ruotolo (Day 5 of the Surrender Novena)
Mistrust
Faith is a complete trust in God, a surrender to his will. At the fall, we lost the trust we should have in God. All of salvation history has been God proving to us over and over again that He loves us.
When we do not trust, God cannot work in our lives. We would interpret any good thing He does for us as being from ourselves (pride) or from others (idolatry). This is the lie of the devil that is so embedded in us as to be considered a part of our nature. If God worked His miracles in these circumstances, He would undermine His own most important goal: to convince us of His love.
Surrender
I perform miracles in proportion to your full surrender to Me and to your not thinking of yourselves.
Jesus, as spoken to Father Don Dolindo Ruotolo (Day 7 of the Surrender Novena)
Once we accept God’s love for us, our trust in Him is restored. Then God will not hold back his love for us. We will begin to see every action of His as a miracle, and He will be free to do ever more wondrous things in and through us.
